DESTINATION: MISSISSIPPI DELTA
You never really know what you might discover in your own backyard—or, in my case, seven hours away. Last year, my husband and I took up clay shooting as a hobby we could enjoy together. We've recently started competing in state and regional events across the U.S. (we are planning to shoot and compete abroad next year...more to come). This past weekend, we drove to Mississippi to participate in the Providence Cup and the FITASC Grand Prix. FITASC, the Fédération Internationale de Tir aux Armes Sportives de Chasse, is an international organization dedicated to sporting clays shooting. Founded in 1921, this sport is known for its challenging format. Shooters encounter a variety of targets, including both singles and doubles, from different shooting stations, also known as pegs.
Most of you know by now that I am a huge proponent of travel and exploring new places. Having spent little time in Mississippi and knowing little about the area, I wasn't sure what to expect, but my excitement grew as we neared the impressive gates of Providence Hill, the competition venue. From the moment we arrived, I was captivated by the natural beauty and peaceful atmosphere, which instantly felt like a genuine escape from our daily routine.

Set on a 1,200-acre former horse farm in the Mississippi Delta, we opted to stay on the property in one of their new, stunning A-frame cabins; it was the perfect place to relax after a few days of shooting clays. Crafted by hand in Pennsylvania and assembled on-site this spring, each bungalow boasts a cozy yet modern atmosphere. Guests enjoy exclusive use of a private golf cart, a steam shower, luxurious Matouk linens, Nespresso coffee, unique Mississippi artwork, a shotgun closet, breathtaking scenic views, and many other amenities.

By chance, we had the pleasure of meeting and shooting with Mike Haas, one of the club's leading instructors, as well as the owners, Wiverson and Clarissa Trecenti. On our final night, Wiverson and Clarissa graciously invited us to dinner. It was a fun and memorable evening; however, their adorable children stole the spotlight during a lively card game of Exploding Kittens. Wiverson also revealed more exciting new additions to come, including additional accommodations, a working farm, and beautiful gardens. I was already planning our next visit; this seals the deal. I will report back here.

Ronda, I love your writing! And this story is lovely. I spent three months in Mississippi two years ago for work and it was lovely--and I stayed in a gorgeous home right on the Gulf. I will be going back, for sure. I look forward to future posts here. Please let me know if you every come north--to New York or Detroit. I would love to see you! xxoo Cindi Cook
