DESTINATION: SCOTLAND
A year before my move to Scotland, I landed at Glasgow Airport, filled with excitement for my inaugural visit. I vividly remember the thrill I felt as the plane landed, envisioning grand castles in the distance. Hailing from Texas, I had to laugh at myself when I realized my expectations were ridiculous. Just as not all Texans wear boots or live like the Ewings at Southfork Ranch, I knew it was an absurd assumption. Nevertheless, I was excited to see the storied dwellings for which Scotland is known. The country is rightfully famed for its ancient architecture. At one time, Scotland boasted more than 3000 castles. Over 1500 structures are still standing today, and although some are in ruins, there are many opportunities to witness these impressive structures. Better yet, you can immerse yourself in history by staying for a night, or two, or three. I have included two of my favorites. Aldourie Castle and Cottages
Aldourie Castle is a sprawling Scottish baronial estate located on the banks of Loch Ness in the Highlands of Scotland. The charming 400-year-old residence has been lovingly restored by its owners, Danish fashion magnate Anders Holch Povlsen and his wife, Anne.
The couple enlisted the help of Charlotte Freemantle and Will Fisher, who own Jamb, one of the most highly regarded destinations on London's famed Pimlico Road. Jamb is renowned for its exquisite antiques, reproduction fireplaces, and lighting.
